Valor Mortis Key Items
The keys and quest items that unlock routes, and the reason none of them are missable.
Confirmed facts on this page carry their sources.
Key items in Valor Mortis are progression gates rather than collectibles: they open doors, lifts and blocked paths during the chapter that gives them to you.
Documented key items
| Item | Chapter | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Cave Grotto Key | 4 | Opens the door in the cliffs that leads into the Caverns after you rescue Louis. |
| Mysterious Stone Pyramid ×7 | 1-9 | Quest items for the Oathbound quest line, one per Eternal Guardian encounter. |
| Mysterious Stone Slab | 9 | Received for collecting all seven pyramids; opens the wall for the Oathbound finale. |
| Empty Ferrofluid Flasks | 2-8 | Expand your flask charges; they can also be purchased from the merchant station in later chapters. |
| Quintessential materials | 7 & 9 | The max-level upgrade materials. Only two Transmutation ones exist, which is the whole reason the Shield upgrade decision is permanent. |
Why none of these are missable
Every key item either stays in your inventory or sits in an area you can return to. The game has no branching region lockout, so the only timing-sensitive content is the Chapter 10 jail area.
FAQ
FAQ
Common questions about this topic.
Can I lose a key item?
No. Key items are permanent once picked up, and the areas they unlock remain reachable after the story.
Do key items count toward 100%?
They are not part of the trophy requirement, but the Oathbound quest line depends on them and that quest does carry a trophy.
